Marion Rufus “Marty” Dickson, Mount Olive, MS
Marty Dickson, 63, passed away Friday, September 25, 2020, at Baylor St. Luke Hospital in Houston, Texas. Marty was born on August 29, 1957. He was the son of Marion Rufus “Jackie” Dickson, Sr., and Mrs. Mary John Williamson Dickson.

Marty was a retired rural letter carrier with the United States Postal Service in Mount Olive MS. He was also a former business owner of Dickson Appliance and Furniture.

Marty is survived by his wife, Myra Gilmore Dickson; two daughters, Lauren Dickson of Magee, MS, and Kristen Pringle (Ryan) of Collins, MS; one son, Patrick Dickson of Mount Olive, MS; one sister, Mary Larke Powell (Ricky) of Mount Olive, MS; three granddaughters, Kylie, Ryleigh, and Mary Grace Pringle.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Marcia Dickson Thornton.

Marty graduated from Simpson County Academy in 1975 and from the University of Southern MS in 1980 with a degree in Business Administration. Marty was an eagle scout in the Boy Scouts of America and lived by the motto, “Be Prepared.” As an alum of Southern Miss. Marty enjoyed attending football games and tailgating with friends and family. Marty was a member of the Okatoma Cruisers, vintage, and classic car club in Collins, MS. He enjoyed the Friday Nights on Main in Mendenhall, MS, the various drive-ins to restaurants, and participating in car shows in MS. Marty loved his 1969 Chevelle SS. He was an avid golfer, and he enjoyed playing with his son, Patrick, and many other friends at the Okatoma Golf Club. He was a member of the Magee First United Methodist Church. He was a very spiritual man who was involved in many church activities, including Food for Families. He will be deeply missed by his family, his friends, and all who knew him.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 30 from 5:00 – 8:00 pm at Tutor Funeral Home of Magee, MS. Services are scheduled for Thursday, October 1, at 11:00 am at the Magee First United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in the New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery in Mount Olive, MS.

Arrangements are entrusted with Tutor Funeral Home in Magee.
