Born during the depression, Marie grew up helping the family by picking cotton as a child. She married young and started a family She sewed for her daughters and for the public. Later she learned typing, shorthand and bookkeeping. She worked in Jackson during the day and came home and sewed at night for the public. She kept books on Saturdays for local businesses in Mendenhall. She did what was necessary to raise five kids as a single parent. She always had a garden to help put food on the table for her family. Later in life after her children were grown, she learned to oil paint and was an accomplished painter. Also, she began a second career making desserts for The Country Fisherman Restaurants. She loved to cook and this is where she found a sincere and satisfying job. She worked until she was in her late 80’s and only then at her children’s insistence, did she quit.

Marie will be fondly remembered to many as a friend, a wonderful cook and above all else, a Mother who loved her family.

Services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Thursday, June 1, 2017, at Tutor Funeral Home in Mendenhall, MS with visitation from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.  Interment will follow in Mendenhall City Cemetery with Bro. Tommy May and Bro. Rodney Anderson officiating.

Arrangements are entrusted to Tutor Funeral Home of Mendenhall.
