Hall of Fame 2015-Magee Chamber of Commerce
Malinda Hubbard Mahaffey
Malinda was born on March 2, 1961 the only girl in a family of three brothers. Malinda graduated Magee High School and University of Southern Miss. and taught Special Education in Magee schools until her early retirement due to chronic illness. Malinda developed Rheumatoid Arthritis at age 15 and battled the disease process for years as a result of the multiple complications. Malinda was only 53 years old last year when she joined her Lord and Savior in heaven.
Malinda was blessed to have her loving husband Eddie and son John who took good care of her. She was blessed with a close family relationship of her parents Gene and Pat Hubbard along with her three brothers; Benny, Timmy and Scott and their families. Malinda and Pat had a very close mother-daughter bond and often see them together around town.
Two of her friends gave testimonials about Malinda’s life in which they both said she was an example of what a Christian truly is.
Malinda did her student teaching with Mrs. Louise Windham and was a dedicated Special Education Teacher and took special care of Michael Dunn.
Malinda touched so many lives with her sweet, sweet spirit as another friend stated. She made you feel like you were her best friend. Malinda would not miss calling someone sick at home or in the hospital; she would offer to cook and take food no matter how sick she may have been. She always had a positive attitude. If you asked her how she felt, she would say, “just fine.” Malinda touched so many lives in her unique way as a giving, caring and loving person.
One friend said it seemed like her goal in life was to make everyone’s life better. She was up and going whenever she was able and you could be assured if you needed prayer she would be praying for you.
My life is truly richer for having known Malinda. She displayed such courage as she faced illness after illness. Her kindness and love of Jesus Christ set Malinda apart. How she adored her family…her dedication to Eddie and John knew no bounds. Malinda truly loved Magee the city and Magee the people.
Malinda’s mother, Pat Hubbard shared these words with me just this week…and I wanted to share them with you.
“When I hear “Malinda” the word JOY just feels my whole being – she lived her life Jesus First,
Others Second and You (her) Last. Only God knows the harvest from seeds she has sown. It was such a privilege to be her mother, her sister-in-Christ and all the blessings that spilled over. She never dwelled on what she could not do but always what else can I do. Our God is an awesome, sufficient Father!! “
