A friend of mine visited Coach Dick Wendt on Monday. When my friend left, it was with a heavy heart. Coach is not doing well, and he needs our prayers.
For weeks, our schools, our community, and so many people whose lives have been touched by Coach Wendt have continued to lift him up in prayer.
Someone shared with me that sitting on his desk at the nursing home is a framed picture of the football field bearing his name. What a beautiful reminder of the love and respect this community has for Coach Wendt.
Y’all, that touched his heart.
I wonder if Coach ever realized just how many lives he has influenced over the years. He wasn’t just a coach. He was a teacher, a mentor, a friend, and, to so many young people, someone who believed in them when they may not have believed in themselves.
Coach wanted his students to succeed. He wanted them to become good people, make good decisions, and go out into this world and make a difference.
And isn’t that exactly what Coach Wendt has done? He made a difference.
Sometimes we go through life never really knowing the impact we’ve had on others. I don’t think Coach Wendt has any idea how many people love him, respect him, and are praying for him.
A football field may carry his name, but his real legacy is written in the hearts of the countless young people whose lives he helped shape.
Please continue to pray for Coach Wendt. Pray for his comfort, his peace, and his family during these difficult days.
Coach, you spent a lifetime cheering for others. Now it’s our turn to cheer for you.
You are loved, Coach Wendt. More than you will ever know.
Love you, Coach!
