With the upcoming celebration of our Simpson County Bicentennial, I decided to began a series of “Do you know where I am.”
As we strive to look and remember our heritage, I will visit areas in the city updating and reminding people of where we were and where we are.
If anyone has a suggestion, please email or call me! (601-310-6881)
I am blessed with a copy of Mrs. Katherine McCarley’s History of Magee. From her writings, I am attempting to educate our citizens and myself on the way we were.
Check out the first “stop.”

Wonderful idea. Loved The Ice House visit.
if you are truly interested in the history of this county check out the archives written by Bee King. he was the mayor of mendenhall in the early 1900’s.
All of the stories have been selected from a series of articles written by the late Bee King, who was a wellknown lawyer, historian and writer. The Simpson County News began running the series in their weekly
newspaper in 1937 and continued until 1948. Mr. King’s writings are a graphic presentation of the life and times
of early Simpson County. He interviewed the elderly citizens through out the area and uniquely recorded for
posterity the experiences of the people in day to day living.
