Troup81dickeymayortrumpetThursday night, October 29th , proved to be quite interesting at the MageeNews Forum and Debate. “it” got loud…”it” got tough…but the ones in attendance learned a lot.

Thank you to the candidates who attended, the businesses that sponsored door prizes, the businesses that provided refreshments…and a special thank you to the friends and family of MageeNews.com who worked so hard to “pull this off.” At the beginning of the program, Charlie came to me with this look on her face that I knew wasn’t good. “The internet is not working right,” stated Charlie. Now, ya’ll, we had (Joe Garner included) spent hours trying to get everything to “pull” just right. I love the Community House, but unless we can get a “hard line” connection to the “house”…I’ll need to relocate next year…makes me sad….But as I told Charlie, “Fox news feed was lost several times during the World Series….and they have million dollar equipment…we have thousand dollar equipment and we all have problems.

political2manMy son, Dickey Honea, was the master of ceremonies. Boy Scout Trop 81 from Mendenhall presented the colors and led in the pledge. Mayor Jimmy Clyde played the national anthem on his trumpet.

Angela Gray represented her brother Robert Gray (candidate for Governor). Andy Gipson spoke on behalf of Phil Bryant (re-election as governor). Celeste Hurst represented her husband Mike Hurst who is a candidate for Attorney General.

The night progressed with speakers seeking almost every local office. The most heated debate was between Patsy Brumfield and Andy Gipson who spoke on Imitative 42. (You’ve just got to see that to believe it…check out the video). Oh, wow…the “discussion” became very heated.

hurst guy2Danny Craft, candidate for Supervisor District 2…just told it like it was! He expressed his disappointment in other candidates who did not care enough to attend these type programs where the voters can meet their candidates. (That’s another part of the video you need to see). Danny did a great job and had the crowd eating out of his hand!

Cedrick Albritton, who is running for Sheriff against Donald O’Cain, did not attend…so Don O had the floor the entire allotted time. (Cedrick did call and said he had to work and could not attend)

Calvin Edwards was unable to attend due to the death of his mother.

I guess the biggest “disappointment” of the night was neither Matt Sullivan nor Daniel Jones attending…but they both were sick with a virus…and I can promise you this, they would have been there if at all possible.

debate2crowd4craft2Tuesday is the big day….please go and vote…everyone has expressed a fear of low voter turn out. Make a commitment to tell everyone you see “Go Vote”

Thanks to Hand’s Nursery, Polk’s Gifts, PrioirtyOne Bank, Peoples Bank, Trustmark Bank, J Grant’s Menswear, and The Gift Garden of Magee General Hospital for donating door prizes.

A huge thank you to Joe Garner of Music City Instruments….the boy is a whiz…he did all the mikes…PA system…anything and everything!

The Debate as a whole was very informative and answered a lot of questions for the voters of Simpson County. However some candidates such as Mr.Craft who is running in the Supervisor District 2 race should have focused more on educating us on what HE will do if elected and not so much on bashing the other candidates because they were not present for the debate. We were there to better know the candidates and that kind of behavior only shows us, the more mature, christian voters the character of a man. everyone sitting our area were undecided as to who we would be voting for but unlike you reported we were not “eating out of his hand” We will actually be voting for the other candidate. Its time Simpson county stops with the dirty politics and trying to confuse us by bashing the other candidates and let us know exactly what you as a candidate for office will do for us if elected.

I totally disagree. I thought Danny Craft spoke well about himself and the drive he has for Simpson County. The other candidates should have been there they knew the meeting was taking place. Danny Craft is a good Christian man and he will be a very good supervisor. If you were listening he did state what he would do.

      Mr. or Mrs. Mason
It is your right as an American to vote for whomever you choose. That is what so great about our country and why Mr. Craft so elegantly put it at the closing of his speech. There are men and women who are fighting and has fought and died to give you that right to vote.
I do not know which debate you attended but from where I sat; Mr. Craft did not bash anyone nor displayed any dirty politics. He did not talk negative about anybody or their character. He only spoke from the heart and told the truth.
You claim to have attended the debate to better know your candidate? Well then! Mr. Craft did explain to the audience in attendance that he is very passionate about the position of supervisor, Simpson County and its people. How he wants to promote our county to move more business into our county for it to grow. How he would work hard and be in touch with the people. How he wants to get the people’s input before making any decisions. He made no promises except that he would work hard for the people. He addresses the budget that was voted on and approved.
He proved to me at this debate that he was a leader and can get the job done. He answered the question addressed about Skiffer Park. He stated that he cannot promised anything but there is money set aside for recreation in the budget and he would work hard and get the people that was concerned about this issue answers.
Mr. Craft was there, not the other candidates, and he did focus and educate us on what HE would do if elected. Weren’t you listening? Mr. Craft will get my vote!
