On June 13, 2016 Magee Dispatch received a call from MDOC on Wood Drive stating that one of their inmates was trying to escape. Magee officers responded to the call, and when they arrived around 11:20 am one of the MDOC officers stated to Magee Officers that the inmate had jumped the back fence. The inmate was last seen running toward 13th St SE near EO Berry’s. Around 12:05 pm one of the Magee Officers spotted a man fitting the description of the inmate standing on the edge of the woods near 13th ST SE. K9 Officer, Landon Ates, deployed the K9, Jade, where the last known location of the inmate. K9, Jade, was on the track of the inmate shortly there after and the inmate, Janzene Shields, was apprehended in the woods between Mill Drive and 13th St SE. The inmate, Janzene Shields, was then released back into MDOC custody to face escape charges. Thanks to K9, Jade, for the hard work she does for the city. Having a K9 in a department helps police officers apprehended dangerous suspects like this escaped inmate. We are very glad to have Jade at Magee Police Department where she can protect the great citizens of our city.
