Thanks to Principal Bill Broadhead, I have had the opportunity to meet and interview the Teachers of the month at Magee High School. Today was awesome!
Laurinda Brown-Johnson, English 3 & 4 teacher, was quite an interesting interview. I had never met Mrs. Brown-Johnson. She brought a new level to “thinking out of the box” with her students.
One of the funniest things, Laurinda kept saying “I don’t want to teach—I am not going to be a teacher!” As most of us know, you never know where the Lord will lead. We have some blessed students at Magee High who are being taught by one of the best. She emphasizes writing. She emphasizes getting to know the student and their needs. She emphasizes drama and theater. (She wrote and directed the Black History skit performed last week which had 60 participants.).
Laurinda’s theme seems to be “how can I help you be the best you can be.” I hope you will take time to view the video. She is quite impressive!
Meeting the needs of students during a different age and time seems to be her calling. She may not want to be a teacher—but she fills the role perfectly.
