Today is a beautiful day in Magee, MS. I thought I would share some stuff with ya’ll that I heard! Now, what I hear may not always be the real truth…but it is the street talk.
Magee is getting another red light! Yes, according to local sources, a red light will be put at the intersection near Sears on highway 49. A frontage road will be built in front of Magee Family Dental Clinic joining Siloam Road. The crossing on 49 that shoots from Siloam road straight across will be closed. One more kicker…there is no funding for this project, yet! We are looking at about 2 years to complete the project and who knows when the project will start! The project is a Safety Project which means possible Federal Funding. We need to contact our US Senators and Representatives about the need for safety on 49 in this area.
Cars that are “for sale” and 18 wheelers will be ban from the Highway 49 shopping center (front of Auto Zone). I am thrilled the city is going to clean up that area. The deal is…that is private property and vehicles cannot be left for long periods of time. Of course, the merchants want you to park and shop….but no parking and spending the day or night! Talk is, a restaurant (fast food) is looking at locating in the parking lot! We’ll see!
Simpson Co-Lin is expanding! A new building will be built in the area where temporary structures are located (behind the existing buildings). Patrice will be posting an article with all the info. Great news for our county!
The alderman voted to close and “fill up” our city swimming pool. I understand their reasoning…the pool was built around 1964…so we’ve had almost 65 years of use from the pool. I have no idea what the area will be used for…there is a building there with bath houses??? Who knows???
Magee High School is in the process of hiring a new head football coach. The decision is not official…so I’m not reporting!
A list of the streets that made the cut for paving this year are:
Trinity Village
Cypress Pointe (contingent on water lines being ran)
Hilton Drive
Education Dr
Goodwater Rd in front of school
1st Street SE
4th Street SE
4th Street SW
4th Avenue SW (1 block)
Our city only had $220,000 budgeted for paving…that is all we can do…the aldermen have worked, along with help from the city engineer, on what streets were the most “desperate”
Not an easy job…well done mayor and aldermen.
The Sportsplex was “wrapped up” this past weekend (Feb 17-18) with over 50 teams participating in a tournament! Wow!
(For more information about the Tuesday night board meeting click here)
Brittany and Tommy Bishop have bought the building and property where Ballyhoo is located! Cinde Walker will be selling all the Ballyhoo inventory and fixtures beginning in March. The Bishops own “All Guised Up” (located next to Jose’s). Brittany hopes to have “All Guised Up” at its new location in full swing by June!
I am working on an article about Julieanna Jackson, Miss Mississippi Teen USA from Mize. Julieanna is beautiful and so talented. The video interview is now available on the Home page of MageeNews. I’ll get the article done…I’m just slow!
Tickets for the Chamber Banquet which is scheduled for Tuesday, March 6th are on sell at the Chamber office ($25) Marshall Ramsey is the guest speaker plus the Citizen of the Year, Spirit of Magee, and Hall of Fame will be recognized.
I’ve got to go…but you might check back on this article…I may get time to add more happenings!
(The lovely flower is from my yard—thanks to Hand’s Nursery!)
Have a great day!
