Magee General Hospital is filing a voluntary petition for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy today, Friday, August 24, 2018. According to Dr. Frank Wade, given the current healthcare climate and financial stresses on rural hospitals, the hospital was left with no choice but to file a voluntary petition for reorganization under Chapter 11 of the United States Bankruptcy Code.

Dr. Wade, a member of the hospital board, stated “it is tough on small hospitals to remain financially strong in the current healthcare climate.”  “We are committed to continue to operate this hospital with as little disruption as possible.  The hospital is not closing,” stated Wade. Patients should not see any difference in service as the hospital goes through this period of reorganization to address financial challenges.

Chapter 11 bankruptcy permits reorganization under the laws.  Chapter 11 proposes a plan of reorganization to be able to continue to provide safe and sustainable healthcare services in support of Magee, Mississippi and surrounding communities.

“The hospital is not closing.  We are reorganizing. This is not the end, but a beginning to a stronger future for Magee General Hospital,” said Wade.
