The Magee Cemetery committee has been working diligently for over 9 months to make a difference at our cemetery.
Last week, Jerry and Debbie Thompson completed the final coat of paint on the fence! The red brick fence is now white with new lettering. Check it out!!!
The committee is composed of Tawesia Meador, Joy Harris, Jason Ratcliffe, Ricky Anderson, Joanna Barnes, and Sue Honea. The committee operates under the arm of the City.
These members take their job seriously checking the cemetery often.
The committee worked with Public Works director Tim Bray to secure additional rocks for the turn-around located at the bottom of the hill in the new area. Early on, the group “walked” the cemetery tagging trees (small) that needed cutting in an effort to clean up areas. They have picked up dead flowers, limbs, and distributed ant poison. The committee conducted a search concerning prices for plots in our cemetery.
“We are open for suggestions,” stated member Tawesia Meador. “We take pride in our cemetery and want to continue to improve the area.”
One of the next projects is naming the streets and areas. “ The “leg” work has been done,” explained Ricky Anderson. “We are just waiting to see if our budget can stretch to include the street naming.” Also in the works is tree and fence trimming.
The committee meets once a month on the first Tuesday of the month at 5 o’clock. If you would like to join, contact Sue. New members are always welcome.
The Cemetery Committee takes donations made payable to the city with memo cemetery. Every little bit helps!
