Magee Board of Alderman met for their regular schedule meting Tuesday, August 15, 2023.

Christian Carrico with Keep Magee Beautiful came before the board to discuss playground improvements to be made at the city park. Senator Chris Caughman allotted funds for the project. A total of $500,000 has been allotted from the state with the city agreeing to give an additional $100,000. Total cost of the project is approximately $900,000.

Davin Duckworth and Luke Wallace were approved for hire in the public works department. Both candidates met before the board before being approved.

Office Billy Abron was moved from full time employee to part time employee at this request of Police Chief Shane Little.  The board approved the retiring of K-9 officer Aram. Aram has been with the police department since 2016 and has fallen to heath issues. The K9 will be released to his hander.

Bobby Butler met before the board with concern of trespassing on his property on Windsor Drive. The board heard the information and asked Chief Little to police the area.

The board is looking for a new location for recycling bins in the city. As soon as a location is determined, the city will notify the public.

Park Director Jimmy Zila advised the Chamber event with Dr. Zarr was successful and the Chamber did an excellent job on clean up. Zila advised 4 controls were out on the scoreboards and need replacing. The cost is approximately $490.00 each. Zila advised the sprinkler system needs reworking due to several sprinkler heads not working.  Two fields do not have watering systems installed.

Fire Marshall Charlie Valadie advised the new washer and dryer for the turn out equipment had been received and installed. Fireman Michael Allan secured the washer and dryer through a grant.   Valadie advised the City if under a burn ban until further notice.

The board will hold a budget workshop on Thursday, August 17, 2023 at 4:00 p.m. at City Hall.

The zoning board held a hearing on August 8th with Logan Hand asking for property zone change RM to be changed to RV parks. The  zoning board heard from citizens and decided  not to grant the change ordinance at this time. The Board of Alderman took no action due to no change taking place. The information was made part of the minutes.

Hyden Holbrook came before the zoning board asking for conditional use for an outdoor place for kids activities. The public would have access Monday and Tuesday, closed on Wednesday and Holbrook would have access Thursday through Saturday. The zoning board granted the change and the Alderman approved the request.

A hearing will be held for four properties located in town. 724 1st Street Nw, Magee, 406 12th Street Ne, Magee, 926 4th St Se, Magee, and 302 2nd Ave Ne, Magee are all the property locations of concern. The hearing will take place September 12, 2023.

With no further business, the meeting was recessed until Thursday, August 17, 2023 for a budget workshop.
