Magee Board of Alderman met Tuesday, July 7, 2020 for their regular scheduled meeting. Due to social distancing, only 12 people were allowed in the board room at one time.
Mayor Dale Berry announced LED lights would be installed at the City Park. Four slides have been identified as needing replaced at the City Park. The City is working to secure the slides. The MAIS State Softball Tournament will return to the Jimmy Clyde Sportsplex September 26 – October 3, 2020. The Cal Ripken tournament will be held in Magee the weekend of July 11th.
Pot Hole patrol will take place Wednesday, July 8, 2020. Anyone with potholes needing repair, please notify City Hall at 601-849-3344.
The city received several resumes for City Prosecutor. The board agreed to table the decision until the next board meeting.
The windsock located at the airport has been order for replacement but is on backorder. As soon as the purchase is delivered, the windsock will be replaced.
The mosquito truck has not been utilized this summer. The equipment must be certified each year before use. Due to COVID-19, the company that certifies is not working and without certification the truck can not operate.
The Senior Citizen building located at the old YMCA location is ready for operation with the exception of table, chairs, and refrigerator. The board agreed to wait until after the COVID-19 pandemic before opening the center.
The City of Magee is in search of a Dog Catcher. Anyone interested in the position please contact City Hall at 601-849-3344.
Chief Randy Crawford introduced two possible candidates for employment as officers. John Hosey, full time, and Joe Jenkins, part-time.
The board voted to temporary close/block the road located in Ward 3 at 2nd Street SE. The road is gravel.
Steve Womack with Maintenance System Inc. met before the board. Maintenance System takes over the day to day operations and employment of workers for the city water and sewer system. The company would be responsible for call outs, water and sewer issues, 811 calls, payroll, monthly reporting of activity, fire hydrant flushing and maintenance. The cost would run $399,000 over 12 months. The board agreed to entertain the idea during the next budget year and compare present cost to Maintenance System cost.

Residents of Biglane Heights subdivision and John Lockett , Pastor of Bridge Point Baptist Church, met before the board concerning issues with property and road access in the Biglane Heights area. Mr. Lockett desires to use city streets within subdivision to access property that adjoins the subdivision and McNair Springs Road. Robert Pearce, land owner and resident of Biglane Heights, approached the board with a petition to close the road at the end of Biglane Heights since he owns all the surrounding property.
