Madison, MS. Following her decisive victory last Tuesday, Attorney General-Elect Lynn Fitch turned her attention to setting up her new office by announcing the appointment of Curt Hébert and Judge James H. Herring as Co-Chairs of her transition team.
“I am pleased to announce that two of Mississippi’s finest conservative leaders and legal minds have agreed to lead my transition team, Curt Hébert and Judge Jim Herring,” said Attorney General-Elect Fitch. “Both Curt and Judge Herring have led distinguished careers in law and public policy. I am grateful for their support to enact my agenda to tackle human trafficking and the opioid crisis, support our heroes in law enforcement, provide compassion and assistance to the victims of crime, and more.”
Curt Hébert, Jr., of Madison, is a former Executive Vice President for Entergy Corporation of New Orleans, Louisiana, former Chairman of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), former Chairman with the Mississippi Public Service Commission, and former member of the Mississippi House of Representatives. He is currently a partner with The Brunini Law Firm.
James H. Herring served as County Prosecuting Attorney for Madison County, District Attorney for the 20th Circuit Court District, Judge on the Mississippi Court of Appeals, and Special Judge on the Mississippi Supreme Court. He was Chairman of the Mississippi Republican Party and was appointed by President George W. Bush to the Christopher Columbus Fellowship Foundation. Judge Herring was also transition chairman for Governor Phil Bryant in 2012. He is currently senior partner of Herring, Long and Crews, P.C., in Canton.
“As I promised during my campaign, I am ready to lead on Day One,” said Fitch, “and I will. With the assistance of Curt and Judge Herring, I will assemble a transition team of dedicated public servants to execute the comprehensive agenda we set out in this campaign.”
Attorney General-Elect Fitch was elected on November 5th with 58% of the vote, making her Mississippi’s first Republican Attorney General since 1878 and the State’s first woman Attorney General.
