Lovetta Jeralene Peacock, 85 years old, better known as “Granny” of Braxton, MS passed away Sunday, April 28th 2019, at her home surround by her loved ones.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 2, 2019 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Colonial Chapel Funeral Home Mendenhall.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, May 3, 2019 at 10:00 AM at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home Mendenhall. The Burial will follow in Braxton City Cemetery. Bro. Jeff Wedgeworth will officiate. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Mendenhall is in charge of arrangements. (601) 847-4401
Lovetta was born in Atoka, OK on February 3, 1934 to Andrew and Nancy Tomlinson. She was the youngest of eight siblings. Her parents died when she was a young child and she was raised by her older brother, Franklin. She married David Lowery Montgomery, who was active Air Force in Texas. They had a son together and she became a young widow in the same year. In 1953, she married Clyde Lavell Peacock. Together they had four more children. They raised their family in Petal, MS and returned to Simpson County in 1978.
Lovetta was a homemaker most of her life. She decided to go to Hinds Nursing School and graduated at the age of 51. She spent many years as Dr. Cheimprabha’s clinic nurse. During this time she also was a fulltime staff nurse at Simpson General Hospital and started her own business as a medical equipment supplier on Main Street in Mendenhall, MS.
Granny Peacock was a woman of wise words and known to all as loving and kind. She always encouraged her children to be the same. She lived her life with unconditional love for The Lord, family, and friends. She was a hardworker and often repeated “Never put off tomorrow what you can do today” After retiring from nursing, she opened up a gift shop in Jackson at Select Specialty where she enjoyed meeting people, making jewelry, and sharing her wisdom and love. Lovetta had many talents. She loved to quilt, knit, crochet, sew, and cook. She loved to be in the kitchen making home cooked meals for her loved ones and baking cakes, topped with her famous chocolate icing. There are so many precious memories of Lovetta and she will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by husband, Clyde Peacock; first husband, Lowery Montgomery; parents, Andrew Jackson Tomlinson and Nancy Solona Thomas; granddaughter, Tina Angerstein; son-in-law, William (Danny) Cox.
Survivors include her sons, David Montgomery (Virginia), Kenneth Peacock, Glenn Peacock (Debbie); daughters, Dandra Cox and Elizabeth Dawn Cox; grandchildren, Leigh Rucktenwald (Jeffery), James Montgomery, Donna Hudgens, Tara Brittlebraun (Aron), Christian Desadere’, Brittnee Warren, Vanessa Peacock (Satha), Joshua Cox, Scott Cox, Phillip Cox (Cassie), Elizabeth Mangum (Clayton), Christopher Skeen (Danielle), Samantha Skeen, Erin Knighten (Seth), Nicole Hall (Trey), Eric Rollins, Amy Pullens (Eddy), Jennifer Peacock; forty-two great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews.
