Midterm elections 2022 are not quite “in the book.” Circuit Clerk Whit Fortenberry hopes for a complete count by Wednesday (9th) afternoon.
One of the hottest races was Chancery Clerk which became available following the resignation of long time Chancery Clerk Tommy Joe Harvey. Five men and one woman qualified for the race. And let me tell you, the race was on. Signs everywhere, speaking engagements, shaking hands, phone calls, mail-outs, and good old fashion door to door kept the candidates on the run.
Tim Gray led the ticket with 2,928 followed by Tamekia Smith with 1,468.

Although only one school board position was challenged, the race between Krystal Kahn and Ralph Walker was close. Kahn had 555 votes and Walker 767. The position was open following the decision of former board member Patrice Boykin not to seek reelection.

Thanks to the many people who assisted at the Tuesday night count. Internet problems almost drove me nuts! But, with a combination of effort, we got the information to the public….not how I would have liked…but we did it.

NEXT!!! Removal of political signs!
Political signs (unless in a run off) must be removed by Tuesday, November 15, 2022. The law states signs must be down in 7 days. Only signs on city property or right of ways will be removed by the city. (In the future, remember signs cannot be place on right of way or city property.). Signs in people’s yards are the responsibility of the home owner to remove.
