Greenwood, Miss.—An online auction of more than 160 tax-forfeited properties in Leflore County begins at 8 a.m. tomorrow, Wednesday, September 27, 2017.  In all, the parcels are valued at about $400,000.

“When tax-forfeited properties return to the tax rolls, it is a win for the State and local communities,” Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann said. “We generate revenue for cities, counties, and schools, and put properties back into productive use, which make our neighborhoods better, safer places to live.”

Greenwood Mayor Carolyn McAdams agreed.

“Many of the tax-forfeited parcels are located within the city, so we are glad to partner with the Secretary of State’s Office to return them to the rolls,” Mayor McAdams said.

Bids may be submitted through the Secretary of State’s online auction portal until 11:59 a.m. Wednesday, October 25, 2017.  To place a bid, a user is required to register online. Users may view property details, such as parcel location, pictures, and an auction map, online.  Successful bidders will be notified by e-mail as soon as possible after the auction closes.  Payment of the bid amount must be submitted within fifteen (15) days of notification.

Buyers are also permitted to pay a “Buy It Now” price on 39 featured parcels, which allows them to purchase a property immediately instead of waiting until the end of the auction.

In recent years, successful auctions in Bay St. Louis, Greenville, Greenwood, Hinds County, Jackson, McComb, Meridian, Pearl River County, Rankin County, Waveland, Vicksburg, and Yazoo City have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for Mississippi schools, municipalities, and counties.
