Tim Craft, owner of Kennedy Springs Grocers located at 2079 MS 540 Magee, MS, will begin selling scratch off lottery beginning Monday, November 25, 2019.
Tim has owned Kennedy Springs Grocery for 9 years. When I asked him why he decided to retail for the lottery he said, “I can’t sell beer and I can’t sell liquor…so the reason is money!”
Tim may can’t sell beer or liquor, but let me tell you, he sells a lot of other stuff! From gas to groceries to prepared food, Tim has a little bit of everything! His store is filled with historical old pictures which are worth the stop just to see them!
He makes fresh sandwiches as well as sells Tony’s pizza. He has a great sitting area where you can eat and visit.
Tim’s story hours are 6 AM to 6 PM and Sunday afternoon. He has an ATM machine…and now he has a lottery machine!
Kennedy Springs Grocery is located 8 miles from Magee, 10 miles from Mendenhall, 12 miles from Puckett, and 12 miles from Raleigh. Now, I would say that is a county store!
Tim completed a 44 page application which included a financial and personal back ground check to receive approval to participate in the lottery system. He had to post a bond and secure all lottery money in a separate bank account. Tim can pay up to $599.99 on a scratch off. Anything won over that amount is collected from the state lottery commission. Tim and his wife attended a training a few weeks ago…and he is ready to go!
The “real” lottery will begin January 30, 2020.
The store was built in 1983 by Earl Warren.
I don’t care if you do or don’t want a scratch off ticket, the food is worth the drive to Kennedy Springs Grocery. The sandwiches are homemade and fresh cooked.
Greeting you at the front door or two big ole dogs laid out sunning…they don’t even bark but they’s got their eyes on everything and everyone.
November 30, 2019 is Small Business Saturday. I don’t think there is a better way to support Small Business Saturday than putting Kennedy Springs Grocery on your shopping stops list!
