Kelly Wayne Bishop, 61 of Mendenhall, MS passed away Friday, March 7, 2025 at his residence in Mendenhall, MS. He was born Wednesday, August 28, 1963 in Simpson County, Mississippi to Wayne Quitman Bishop and Mary Lois Gregory. His Maw was so very special to Kelly, he loved her so very much, she meant the world to him, they had a special bond she prayed for him and her prayers were answered she was so very proud of her son. He turned out to be the man that she wanted him to be. He loved his daddy dearly. His daddy would let him drive as a boy and that was special memories for Kelly. Kelly always talked about how his daddy knew he wasn’t going to be here for him long but he made the most of that time they had together and was very proud of him taking that time with him. He loved his daddy very much. It was very hard on Kelly when he passed but God put a wonderful man in his life to look up to and he loved Luis so much. He always told me he was so thankful for him being in his life to have someone to guide and direct him and said he would not have made it without him. Every boy needs a man and Luis was that man for Kelly. Kelly met the love of his life Margaret Garner in the year of 2000. Just one touch that was all it took. They moved in together within a couple of months. They were married on February 18, 2006 and spent 26 years together loving and supporting each other making the most precious memories. He was the best husband anyone could ever have. He was gentle to his wife. He had the most respect for his wife, her family and friends loved them like they were his own. He would tell them he loved them to the bones. Kelly Wayne Bishop oh what a man. He was much of a man. He was a hard worker when he said he loved you he loved you. He wholeheartedly loved his family and was so grateful for them and everything they did for him. He was so fun to be with and he loved grilling out with Chad and Diann Hosey. He was so thankful for our friends Ed and Michelle Love that stepped up for him in the end. Jimmy and Kay Warren that did a lot praying for him and all of the church family that prayed for him said he was blessed to have friends like that. He loved fishing. He always loved horses very much. He could take a piece of wood and whittle it into walking sticks and knives many hours he spent doing that and he loved it. Back in 2004 he changed his life around and quit drinking for the Lord. He was never the same man. He wanted to go to heaven more than anything else on this Earth. He loved the Lord above all things. He said he didn’t just have the faith of a mustard seed, he had the faith of a watermelon seed. It was proven when he passed away to his heavenly home there was no suffering or pain. He peacefully went to sleep. Kelly Wayne Bishop will be missed so badly by all that knew him now he is in the arms of Jesus.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 13, 2025 from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Magee. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 14, 2025 at 3:00 P.M. at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Magee. Burial will follow in Sharon Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Magee, Mississippi. Bro. Gary Roberts will officiate. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Magee is in charge of arrangements. 601-849-5031
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne Quitman Bishop and Mary Lois Gregory Vargas; sister, Jo Ann Bishop Gregory (Larry); father-in-law, John Day Garner; mother-in-law, Ruby Lee Garner; brother-in-law’s, Hulon L Garner, Bennie Brown and David Brewer; sister-in-law, Tammy Garner; Infant son, Jonathan Wayne Bishop.
Survivors include his wife, Maragret Garner Bishop; step-father, Luis Vargas (Dot); sisters, Judy Kelly (Robert), Becky Bennett (Jay); brothers, Luis Junior Vargas, David Vargas (Pat), Tommie Vargas (Camie) and Junior Craft; step-sisters, Teresa Vargas and Jessica Maddox (Josh); brothers-in-law, Junior Garner and John Garner (Ashton); sister-in-law’s, Peggy Brown and Earnestine Hill (Don); and host of nieces and nephews
Pallbearers will be Wesley Sebren, Nathan Sullivan, Brandon Sullivan, James Garner, Chad Hosey, and John Swain.
Honorary pallbearers will be Eddie Wayne Sullivan, Drake Coupel, and Edward Love.
