Keep Magee Beautiful Chairman Christian Carrico came before the Board of Alderman Tuesday night, August 3, 2021 to update the Board and citizens on the progress of the committee as well as  plans for the future.

Carrico presented a study from Playgrounds by Leathers, which was instrumental in the planning of the original City Park which was built in 2003.  The study showed a cost of $105,000 to repair and tear down parts of the park which would last 3-5 years.  The study also showed rebuilding the park would cost $325,000 which would last for 30 years.

The playground is 18 years old and should last around 20 years, with proper maintenance.

No decision was reached as to plans for the park.

Carrico also presented plans for additional updates to the Ural Everett Park.  Additional string lighting will be hung and hanging lights along both sides of the walls running the length of the park will be installed.  Additional security lighting in each corner of the very back of the “stage” area which would detect motion and automatically come on is part of the plan.  Everything except security lights would be set on a timer.  The proposed projected cost of the upgrade is $650.  The money will come from the Make Magee Beautiful grant.

A city wide clean up day is set for Saturday, August 28th.  Christian is encouraging churches and schools to band together to clean up our city.  Any student needing community service hours may participate for credit. (Additional information concerning clean up day will be posted)

We are fortunate to have Christian leading this effort. He has done so much for Magee. I love the idea of more lighting in ural Everett park! Let’s have some fall afternoon concerts there!
