Let me began by saying, I appreciate the school board and administration and the Advisory Committee…I cannot imagine the hours of work that has been invested in the site selection for a new Magee Elementary School…thank you. People who are willing to give of their time above and beyond even a requirement are to be commend. …but, I never even knew the Business Park (Pioneer) land was being considered. Again, ya’ll don’t have to tell me everything…I am just surprised that the site consideration was not made “more” public.
Again, I’m just saying…both places have problems…but I will say that the Chris Lane property has already had $60,00 worth of “studies” done on the land…in addition to a traffic study…these studies have not been conducted on the “new” site…so there goes more money. In my opinion, road access for both places is a nightmare…just scary…and I mean scary…a railroad track, narrow roads, crossing highway 49 (doing that alone…one takes their own life in their hands)…and the list goes on.
I always wanted the new elementary built around the existing in town school…but the architect made it clear that was not an option. I feel as if I’ve been from one end of Magee to the other end looking at places for a school…from a dump to a field…basically, only two places met the criteria for a school site.
Whichever site the school board chooses, I will support…because I am supporting our schools and their moving forward. As I’ve said and everyone else has said, without strong public schools a town cannot grow. But, I also know the spirit of Magee…the spirit of its people…Spirit that is what we have…and we are going to need a positive spirit as we move forward…

Eastside community is the most logical place to put a new elementary school. Fork out the money and be done with it. The money saved in road work, utilities, and gas money for the busses would make up for the extra money paid for the land in the long run.
