In the early afternoon hours of Monday, April 5, 2021, the precious summons was issued to Joyce Welch Mangum to occupy and begin decorating her mansion in glory. Any and everyone who knew and loved Joyce, knew she loved beautiful things and there is no place more beautiful than Heaven. Even now she has heard, “Well done, good and faithful servant…enter into the joy of the Lord.”

Joyce was born June 14, 1931, in Martinville, Mississippi, to T.W. Welch, Sr. and Erna Meadows Welch. She graduated from Mendenhall High School and married the love of her life, Henry Durr Mangum. She was the epitome of a southern lady who welcomed everyone into her home. She never let anyone leave her home hungry, and always offered another piece of pie. She was a gracious lady of true beauty, inside and out, who never said an unkind word about anyone. She always loved to look her best and her smile enhanced her sparkle.

She was a charter member of the Mendenhall Garden Club, was a member of the Mendenhall Business Women’s Club for many years and served on the Board of Trustees for Simpson General Hospital for nine years. Before her health began to decline, she was an active member of First Baptist Church of Mendenhall where she served on various committees.
