I feel kindness is one of the most admirable traits a person can possess. When someone is or has been kind to me or any member of my family, I rarely forget.
My mother had Alzheimer’s for many years. My sister and I kept my mother in her home with sitters around the clock for about 12 years. My mother was a delightful person. She was fun. She loved others. She was kind. She visited the sick. She took food to the sick.
In her later years, people forgot about her. They didn’t visit. They didn’t call. She no longer existed in their world.
One person who did not forget my mother was Joyce McNair. Until the end, Joyce visited my mother. I have never forgotten Joyce’s kindness.
Joyce McNair died Sunday in New Albany, MS where she was living under the care of her daughters Jolyn and Janice. I may get a few things mixed up (surprise surprise)…but, Joyce went to visit Jolyn in New Albany several years ago, While there, Joyce suffered a major stroke. She never got to come home again. Joyce loved Magee. She loved her home…and she was unable to ever visit again!
Her kind spirit is shared by her daughters.
Joyce was involved in Magee. She was active in First Baptist Church. She was involved in civic clubs. Joyce was an “involved” person!
In my opinion, one of Joyce’s greatest contribution was securing the Special Education program at Magee Schools.
Kindness doesn’t cost a thing. Let us give it away daily.
Thank you, Joyce, for the kindness shown many many years ago to my precious mother. Your deeds live on.
