He was a faithful member of Harrisville Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher for many years. He served his community as a member of the Harrisville Water Association board and the Harrisville Economic Council.  He loved the Lord, his family, his community, his fellow man, gospel sings, and, of course, hunting and scouting the woods for wild berries, grapes, and wild plums.  Betty made many a jar of preserves from John’s labors.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Moore; mother, Lillian Watkins Moore; brothers, Truman Moore and Ray Allen; sisters, Donna Allen and Ruby Allen Freeman.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Betty Tannehill Moore of Union, MS;  son, John David Moore, II (Rita) of Union, MS;  daughter, Laurie Moore Brewer (J.J.) of Harrisville; 5 very special grandchildren, Adam Moore (Madison) of Hattiesburg, Johnny Walters of Harrisville, Jesse Walters (Kaylee) of Soso, Nate Moore of Union and Jonas Moore of Union;  6 great-grandchildren Roland Walters Barrett Walters, Elliott Moore, Clarissa Kelly, Rosie Walters and Everlee Walters; brothers, Odis Moore (Louisa) of Edinburg, MS, Odell Buddy Moore (Shirley) of Clifton, MS;  sister, Sue Moore Frakes (Dan) of Carthage

Pallbearers will be Adam Moore, Nate Moore, Jonas Moore, Jesse Walters, Johnny Walters, and Hunter Dedmon.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Harrisville Baptist Church’s media fund.
