ELLISVILLE–Jones County Junior College recently elected its 2017 Homecoming Court. Students chose the following ladies to represent them during Homecoming.
Queen: August Parker of Laurel is an occupational therapy major. The JCJC sophomore is a member of the tennis team and she was the recipient of the “Hustle” award for her efforts. She is also a member of the Student Government Association, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, English Honor Society, Sigma Kappa Delta and the international honor society, Phi Theta Kappa. The Northeast Jones High School graduate was an active member of many clubs, including Beta Club, Serteens, student council, FBLA, Key Club, Future Leaders of Jones County, Crown Club, Mu Alpha Theta and she was a member of her high school tennis team. She served as cheerleading captain and class president at Northeast Jones and graduated summa cum laude and as a Mississippi Scholar. Parker’s future plans include being accepted into Mississippi State University’s kinesiology program and the University of Mississippi Medical Schools’ graduate program for occupational therapy. Her parents are John and Destiny Parker.
Escorting Parker will be Jedidiah Slover of Laurel. The mechanical engineering major earned the “Hustle” award as a member of the JCJC tennis team. Additionally, he is also a member of the Engineering Society and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. The Northeast Jones graduate played football and tennis for the NEJ Tigers, and he was a member of the Beta Club, First Priority and Serteens. He intends on furthering his education at Mississippi State University. Slover’s parents are Shannon and Lisa Slover.
Student Body Maid: Kaylee McLaurin is a Laurel native majoring in elementary education. At JCJC, she is a member of the tennis team, SGA and FCA. McLaurin also plays intramural volleyball, and she received the Marcus L. “Bud” Moore and Billy Burnette Memorial Scholarship from the JCJC Foundation. At Laurel Christian, she was involved in the Teenage Republicans club, student council, Key Club, FCA, and the Honor Society. She also played tennis at LCS and served as a Diamond Doll and basketball, Lionette. McLaurin has aspirations of being a teacher after earning her degree at the University of Southern Mississippi. Her parents are Dr. Sammy and Leslie McLaurin.
Escorting McLaurin is Cameron Calongne who is currently residing in the Landrum Community of Jones County and is a native of Houston, Texas. The business major was active in high school playing football and he was a member of the Sporting Clay Shooting Club. Calongne’s future plans include earning his degree at Louisiana State University. His parents are Dr. Kevin and Tara Calongne.
Sophomore Maid: Clara native, Laken Freeman is majoring in elementary education. Her JCJC activities include being a member of the Charles Pickering Honors Institute, Student Government Association and PTK. Freeman is also the recipient of the Charles Pickering Honors Institute Scholarship and the Arleigh & LaRue Waldrup Read Scholarship from the JCJC Foundation. While at Wayne County High School, Freeman participated in Beta Club and student council and she was a member of the softball team. Some of the honors she earned in high school include being a Mississippi Scholar, a member of the Teacher Academy and Prom Queen. Her future plans involve graduating from USM with her master’s degree and teaching elementary school children. Freeman’s parents are Brentley and Tabitha Freeman.
Freeman’s escort is Reed Windham of Stinger. The business administration major earned the Bobcat Scholarship and is a member of the international honor society, Phi Theta Kappa. Windham was active in high school playing on the varsity baseball team. He was also a member of Beta Club, Mu Alpha Theta, and Peer Council and he earned the Presidential Community Service Award. Windham hopes to earn his degree at Mississippi State after graduating from Jones. His parents are Randy and Jessica Windham.
Sophomore Maid: Chelsea Newell is a Laurel native majoring in physical education. While in high school at Northeast Jones, she was captain of the basketball team for three years, and was voted as class favorite and Miss NEJ. She also made the honor roll throughout her high school years. Additionally, Newell was a member of the track team all four years of high school. Her plans for the future include earning her degree in physical education with a minor in mathematics from the University of Mississippi. Her parents are Sandra Stevenson and Kendrick Patternson.
Newell’s escort is Hattiesburg resident, Raymond Tubby Brisco, who is majoring in psychology. The North Forrest High School graduate was a member of the band in high school. He was also voted as a class favorite. Brisco’s future plans are to earn his psychology degree from the University of Mississippi and open his own practice. His parents are Raymond Brisco, Jr., and Latonya Hopkins.
Freshman Maid: Lakelyn Bohannon of Hattiesburg is a nursing major at JCJC. The Sumrall High School graduate was a member of the basketball and volleyball teams, Beta Club and she was the senior class secretary. The class salutatorian also earned honors as a member of the Hall of Fame, the recipient of the Coca-Cola Scholar Athlete award and she made the All “A” Honor Roll. Her JCJC activities include being a member of the Student Government Association. Bohannon hopes to earn a bachelor’s degree in nursing, and becoming a nurse practitioner, specializing in psychiatry. Her parents are Jarrod and Lori Bohannon.
Bohannon’s escort is Wit Robinson of Hattiesburg. The banking major was active at high school as a member of the Young Republicans and president of the Gamma Psi community group. Robinson graduated with honors from Oak Grove High School. His plans include being the Chief Financial Officer of an oil company. Jeff and Portia Robinson, and Dena Robinson are Wit’s parents.
Freshman Maid: Haley Smith of Ellisville is majoring in biology. At South Jones, Smith was active in show choir and the dance team. She was also selected by her classmates as Homecoming Queen, Most Beautiful and Miss Congeniality. Recently, she was chosen to represent her hometown as Miss Hospitality of Ellisville. Smith’s academic honors include being a Mississippi Scholar, Hall of Fame and graduating magna cum laude. At JCJC, she is a member of the Bobcat Brigade, a student recruiting organization, and SGA. Smith has plans to become an orthodontist after completing her studies at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. Veonica and Undrell Covington are her parents.
Escorting Smith is Jakeilon Kendrick of Ellisville. The South Jones High School graduate was a member of the Band of Braves. At JCJC, Kendrick is majoring in commercial truck driving with plans to become the owner of a trucking company. His parents are Abby and Steven Jones.
The JCJC Homecoming court will also have represented as the flower girl, Caroline Knight, the daughter of Keith and Dana Knight of Laurel. The seven-year-old is in second grade at East Jones Elementary School. Luke Brownlee, the 2017 Homecoming Court crown bearer is a first grader at East Jones Elementary School. The seven-year-old is the son of Grant and Danielle Matthews and Justin Brownlee.
