Jamie Puckett of the Magee area has again taken the top award with the Mississippi Highway Safety Patrol. Jamie, who is a member of the TCAP (Traveling Criminal Apprehension Program…and handles K9’s, received recognition at the yearly MPH Awards Banquet.

In my opinion, Jamie tells his story best in his own words! I am going to quote Jamie’s information. Dedication, determination, and diligence are words that describe Jamie…but to me…” love of the Job,” “love of the people,” and “making a difference” …are what I think of when I hear Jamie’s name.

Congratulations…you are so very deserving…and you make us proud!

“My career in law enforcement started December 20th 2006 when I graduated patrol. I spent the first two years down in Pike and Walthall county working out of Troop M in the Brookhaven district where I made several felony arrest and seized over 5lbs of cocaine on a single traffic stop and I got to see a lot of good and a lot of bad situations, the bad involved drugs rather it be the cause of a wreck or the reason a loved one lost someone due to the addiction rather they steal or Rob someone and they go to jail. In 2008 I came back to my home district of Jackson Troop C, I spent a year working the road and making several felony arrest during this time and I was approached by the director of the criminal apprehension team and he ask me if I would be interested in joining the TCAP team (Traveling Criminal Apprehension Program ) and possibly handle a K9. This was what I loved to do and I accepted his offer and started the probation period on the team. I made several arrest and drug cases and I’ve been on the team ever since. I’ve lead the district the last 6 years in felony arrest my largest seizure was over 1200 pounds of marijuana and I just recently set a state record with MHP on heroin with over 8 pounds of black tar on one traffic stop. I don’t do it for any type of recognition or look at what I’ve done, I do it to make a difference in our state and country, the United States is one of the biggest drug users in the world and I’m sure you know someone who is or has been affected by drugs in one way or another. Out of all the seizures that I have made or will make if I save just one person’s life I feel like I have made a difference in this world and that’s what drives me to continue to fight the war on drugs and criminals relentlessly and the good Lord willing I will continue to pursue the criminal element. Jamie Puckett”

“Today’s awards ceremony was bitter sweet, I reached a mile stone in my career last year with nearly 3/4 of a million in currency seized, 8 lbs of heroin, several kilos of cocaine and felony arrest but I couldn’t help but to think of the ones that lost their lives protecting and serving in this evil world we live. I would like to dedicate this award in memory of MBN agent Lee Tartts memory, he gave the ultimate sacrifice defending our freedom from evil. Gods speed brother. Also I would like to thank the department of public safety who recognizes the ones that go above and beyond the call of duty. Congratulations to all of my brothers and sisters who received awards as they all were well deserved. To the young guys up and coming, always do what’s right and be the type of trooper you want others looking up to in the future. God Bless you all and be safe. Puckett”
