James Daniel Russell, 74 of Mendenhall, MS passed away Wednesday, May 28, 2025 at the Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg, MS. He was born Friday, March 16, 1951 in Mendenhall, Mississippi.

Memorial Visitation will be held on Monday, June 2, 2025 from 4:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Magee. Memorial services will be held on Monday, June 2, 2025 at 6:00 P.M. at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Magee.  Bro. Ryan Wade will officiate. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Magee is in charge of arrangements. 601-849-5031
Mr. Russell had a passion for his tractors and enjoyed joking and picking with people. He was also a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother, and he adored his dogs. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Throughout his career, he worked in the oil field and was the owner and operator of his trucking company before ending his working life as a security guard.

He was preceded in death by his father, James William Russell;  mother, Dorothy Jones  Mahaffey; brother, Charles Keith Mahaffey;  sister, Dorothy Ann Russell Blakeney.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Russell; sons, Chris Russell (Kym), Kevin Russell (Amanda), Brian  Russell and Brandon Russell;  step-daughter, Jacque Coulter (Richard);  grandchildren, Carlie  Russell, Emma Russell (Noah), Sara Russell, Cody Russell and Peyton Russell; brothers, David Ira Russell  (Joann), Eddy Mahaffey; sister, Denise Jones (Terry);  great grandchild, Caden  Russell; and a host of nieces and nephews other family members.
