Following a historic season ending with multiple
coaching and player changes, the Jackson State Tigers are
ready for 2023. After head coach Deion Sanders moved to
coach the Colorado Buffaloes of the PAC-12 Conference,
taking many players and coaches with him, Jackson State’s
athletic department was tasked with finding new coaches
who could attract more players. T.C. Taylor, the offensive
coordinator at JSU from 2020-2022 and a former player for
the Tigers himself, was hired on December 18, 2022, as the
head coach of the Tigers. Taylor’s coaching history
includes stops at Texas Southern, North Carolina Central,
and Coahoma Community College.
On August 26, the Tigers will open their season in
Atlanta, taking on South Carolina State in the SWAC/MEAC
Classic. Then they will travel to Hard Rock Stadium in
Miami to face the Florida A&M Rattlers in the Orange
Blossom Classic for the third straight season. Along with
two more away games versus Southern and Texas State of
the FBS Sun Belt Conference, Jackson State will have a
home game in the fifth week of the season against the
Bethune-Cookman Wildcats on September 23. The Tigers

are looking forward to an exciting season, hoping to
achieve the same or even better record than last year under
Coach Taylor.
