Is the Federal Government Determined to Control Every Corner of our Lives?

The federal government is determined to extend control into every corner of our lives.

Progressives have long wanted to increase taxes and regulations for the rest of America, but their level of federal activism today is unprecedented. They seem determined to go beyond anything even President Lyndon B. Johnson envisaged.

Biden’s $1.9 trillion economic ‘relief’ bill is being presented as a practical response to the Covid crisis.  In reality this bill, which dwarfs Obama’s $800 billion stimulus bill, has little to do with fighting the virus, and everything to do with more bailouts and borrowing.

Federal fiat is being used not only to impose a radical economic agenda. It is being used to foist Washington’s cultural agenda on the rest of the country.

One of the first things President Biden did on taking office last month was to issue an Executive Order about transgender rights regarding the use of school locker rooms and sports events.

Washington lawmakers recently revealed a bill (HR 127) to create a national register and licensing regime for pretty much every firearm in the country. This would mean a federal system that tramples on your rights and hinders your ability to own a gun.

What can we do about it? A lot, actually.

Here at the MCPP, we are taking action at a state level to resist the extension of federal government into our lives.

The Fairness Act that we are backing, and which passed the Senate last week, would ensure girls in our state will be free to take part in school sporting events without having to worry about any radical transgender agenda.

If Washington attempts to violate the Second Amendment rights of Mississippians, our Mississippi Justice Institute is poised to take up the fight on their behalf – just like we did last year. Our aim will be to make Mississippi a sanctuary for all constitutional rights, including the Second Amendment.

Washington might be determined to increase taxes and regulation, but that is all the more reason why we should cut both.  That is the spirit in which we launched the new Mississippi Tech Institute last week, which seeks to ensure that here in Mississippi we have the most business – and family – friendly tech regulatory system in the country.

If, like me, you love liberty, and you believe that freedom is what makes America so special, please let your friends and co-workers know about the work that we do. Forward them this email and get them to sign up to our email list.

If every Mississippian who feels as strongly about this as you do decides to act, we can keep the federal government out of our lives.

Warm Regards,

Douglas Carswell
President & CEO
