Ira Sue Fortenberry, 92 of Mendenhall, MS passed away Tuesday, October 14, 2025 at the Bedford Care Center in Mendenhall, Mississippi. She was born Thursday, June 8, 1933 in Mendenhall, Mississippi.

Visitation will be held on Friday, October 17, 2025 from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Mendenhall. Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2025 from 9:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2025 at 11:00 A.M. at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Mendenhall. Burial will follow in Fellowship Baptist Church Cemetery in Mendenhall, Mississippi. Bro. Donald Green will officiate. Special music will be performed by Debbie Blair. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Mendenhall is in charge of arrangements. 601-847-4401

She enjoyed her ladies Sunday School class at Florence First Baptist Church. She looked forward every week to her ladies lunch group. She loved her friends and family tremendously.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bro. Nelson Fortenberry;  parents, RT  Thompson and Sarentha Welch Massemore;  grandchildren, Ronnie  Ellzy, JoAnn  Sheppard and Misty  Ellzy;  great grandchild, Cole  Bridges; brother, Willie B  Thompson;  sisters, Hazel Ellzy, Murle Myers and Pauline Berry.

Survivors include her son, Johnny  Ellzy  (Sherry ); daughters, Susan Borne and Linda  Bridges  (Dale) and step-son, Ronnie  Fortenberry  (Teresa);  step-daughter, Jackie Lott (Steve); brother, Timmy  Thompson (Tanealia);  sister, Rebra  Rainey; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces  and nephews and other family members.

The family wishes to thank the wonderful caring staff at Bedford Care Center.
In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the Fellowship Baptist Church cemetery fund in Mendenhall.

Pallbearers will be Scotty Bridges, Jason Burgess, Richie Ellzy, Tucker Ellzy, Billy Ellzy, and Larry Peacock.
