WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.) today took part in a Senate Rules Committee oversight hearing on improving operations at the Government Publishing Office (GPO).  Hyde-Smith has jurisdiction over the GPO as Chairman of the Senate Legislative Branch Appropriations Subcommittee.  She joined Rules Committee Chairman Roy Blunt (R-Mo.) in questioning GPO Inspector General Michael Leary.

The GPO produces and distributes information products and services for all three branches of the federal government, specifically all official publications of Congress, the White House, and other Federal agencies.  For the U.S. Department of State, the agency produces U.S. passports at a secure facility at the Stennis Space Center in Mississippi.
