Miss. Senator Acknowledges Service, Sacrifices in 2019 Veterans Day Tribute

WASHINGTON, D.C. – In a Veterans Day tribute, U.S. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.) today encouraged Mississippians to engage with veterans and their families as a means of honoring their service to the nation.

“On Veterans Day we take time to recognize that we all benefit from the sacrifices of our veterans.  The freedoms and liberties we enjoy every day are because of their courage and bravery.  They deserve our admiration and gratitude, not just on Veterans Day, but every day.

“I’m proud of the communities across Mississippi that honor our veterans through ceremonies and special programs.  As we focus on these deserving men and women, I would also encourage everyone to engage veterans and their families.  Go the extra mile to hear their stories or lend a helping hand.

“To every veteran in Mississippi, thank you for your service.  As your Senator, I will continue to do all I can both in Washington and Mississippi to ensure that the promises we’ve given to veterans and their families are honored.”

Engaging with Veterans

·         Veterans who need assistance with federal agencies can find assistance through Hyde-Smith offices or visiting here:  https://www.hydesmith.senate.gov/casework

·         Families, students, and others can contribute to the nation’s understanding of military service by participating in the Library of Congress Veterans History Project, which collects, preserves, and makes accessible the personal accounts of American war veterans.  Learn more here: https://www.loc.gov/vets/vets-home.html

·         This fall will be the initial special duck hunting periods set aside for veterans and active duty military as a result of a law authored by Hyde-Smith.  Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks set aside two Migratory Game Bird dates for veterans and active military to duck hunt:  Nov. 16, 2019 and Feb. 8, 2020.  Learn more here:  https://www.mdwfp.com/media/253620/19-2019-2020-hunting-season-flyer-web.pdf
