Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 31 at 12:00 pm at Shady Grove Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Sharon Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Magee, MS. Bro. Rudy Jackson and Bro. Daniel Perry will officiate. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Magee is in charge of arrangements. 601-849-5031

Mike was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother who will be greatly missed. If you ever met him, you soon found out he knew your entire family tree “BY NAME”. He was always willing to help someone in need. He loved all his family and friends and enjoyed spending time with them. He loved the outdoors. He loved to Rabbit Hunt with all his Beagles. He taught all his nephews and friends how to hunt. He had one child, a daughter, Janice who was his shadow growing up on their small farm out in Simpson County, MS. She helped him plant the garden in the spring, build dog pens and dog houses for his beagles and whatever needed to be done around the home. He would have to send her inside in the evenings to help her mother with housework and cooking. He loved his hobbies of having beagles, horses, and hunting. Mike loved his Lord Jesus and made it known to everyone. He was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church, Magee MS where he was a deacon. He worked at Mississippi Products in Jackson, MS, Avery Body Company in Magee MS and 28 years at Georgia Pacific in Taylorsville MS where he retired. He then spent his mornings, for many years, gathering with his friends at the Co-op in Magee MS. People would ask if he was working there. No. He was just there visiting with whomever would come by the store.

He was preceded in death by his father, Newman McAlpin; mother, Olice McCallum McAlpin;  sisters, Dell Hughes Valentine, Carolyn McAlpin Neely; nephew, Jimmy Hughes.

He is survived by his daughter, Janice Faye McAlpin Wallace (Ted); sister, Betty McAlpin Dye; grandson, Brian Wallace (Deidra); great grandsons, Sawyer Wallace and Lawson Wallace; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and other family.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Netherland, Steve Blackwell, Mike Kennedy, Randall Amason, Charles Hughes, and Stacy Amason.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jack McAlpin, Daniel McAlpin, Billy Blair, Chuck Akers, Bobby Joe Smith, and Dinky Brewer.
