Traveling introduces people to a wide range of different cultures and lifestyles. It has been a part of my life and has shaped me and challenged me. Our travel gives us a new perspective on the world and to me is one of the most rewarding things you can do.
When you enjoy travel as much as I do, you learn to practice efficiently and being organized. This is especially true when it comes to packing my clothes in the suitcase. Most of us carry too many suitcases stuffed with clothes that we don’t end up wearing. We also pack lots of things and end up not using them either, whether that is jewelry, accessories, etc. It is by trial and error that I have learned over time what to pack, how to pack, and keep it all in order. No small feat for me!!
I look at my wardrobe and see the possibilities of what it holds for my new destination. With a little focus and organization, packing can be the exciting step in the traveling process. A good suitcase doesn’t have to be expensive. I prefer a hard surface suitcase because of it’s durability. The suitcase with four-wheels and 360-degree spinning are a must.
Before I pack my suitcase I try on my clothes. There is nothing worse than packing an outfit and you unpack it to wear and you can’t wear it because it has shrunk in the wash or it has a hole or spot that wasn’t noticed during the packing time. Maybe the material isn’t as soft as you remember. So try on everything before it gets packed to ensure its what you really want to wear.
I stick to a chosen color palette. Choose a color palette for winter such as black, white, and beige and a spring/summer palette such as whites, denim and a pop of color. This combination usually goes with the same shoes, hat and most printed scarves.
Roll your clothes, it saves space and reduces wrinkles.
Organize your suitcase like your closet–by the item. Don’t organize by outfit, I use to do this but it didn’t last beyond a day if something changed with my schedule. Now organizing by the item, shirts, dresses, jeans, pants and so forth helps me to take a look and know what pieces to pair with each other. This helps in seeing how I can mix it up for extended stays.
