Gulfport, Miss – Rachel Saenz, 51, of Houston, Texas, was sentenced on March 24, 2016, by U.S. District Judge Sul Ozerden, to 121 months in federal prison followed by three years of supervised release for conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine, announced U.S. Attorney Gregory K. Davis. Saenz was also ordered to pay a fine in the amount of $4,000. She pled guilty to the charge on December 18, 2015.
Saenz was arrested on May 19, 2015, following the arrests of James D. Byrd and Joseph W. Moran, Jr. Byrd and Moran were arrested for trafficking methamphetamine from Houston, Texas to the Mississippi Gulf Coast. During the investigation of Byrd and Moran, Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Agents discovered that Saenz was their source of supply. DEA agents worked with local law enforcement in Houston to obtain video footage showing Byrd and Moran, Jr. entering a motel room in Houston occupied by Saenz and later leaving with a bag containing more than 400 grams of methamphetamine. Byrd and Moran, Jr. were sentenced on January 28, 2016 for their roles in this case.
This case was investigated by the DEA and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Shundral H. Cole.
