Horren Rudolph Yeager
(October 14, 1934 – April 19, 2022)

Horren Rudolph Yeager, 87 of Petal, MS passed away from his earthly home to his heavenly home on Tuesday, April 19, 2022, at the Mississippi State Veterans Home in Collins, Mississippi. He was born Sunday, October 14, 1934 in Taylorsville, Mississippi.

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 22, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church at Hester Street, Taylorsville, Mississippi.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 22, 2022, at 11:00 a.m.at First Presbyterian Church. The burial will follow in Unity Methodist Church Cemetery in Taylorsville, Mississippi. Reverend Tommy Shields will officiate. Special music will be provided by Mrs. Cindy Shields.  Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Taylorsville is in charge of arrangements. 601-785-6564.

At the time of his death, Horren was the longest serving Elder and the longest tenured member of the First Presbyterian Church of Taylorsville.  He was one of five children and the only boy.  His sisters knew he was always there when they needed him, and as protective as he was of his sisters, they were equally protective of their only brother.  Horren proudly served his country in the United States Air Forces, before returning home to marry and start his life and family.  His wife, Barbara who preceded him in death by only 12 days, was the love of his life.  They were always together.  They shared over 64 years of marriage and through it all never wavered especially in the most difficult of time after the death of their son Ronald.   To his sons, he stood as a man that exemplified what it meant to be a man, a gentleman, and a father.  To his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, he was “Pappa”.  Each of them found love and comfort in a simple smile from him.  Everyone who knew Horren loved him.  He was quiet strength and strong support for those who needed him.  He had a dry, subtle sense of humor that was often missed, or took a couple of beats to catch.

Horren worked for Southern Pine Electric Power Association for 48 years.  He loved his work but maybe more than that, he loved the people he worked with.  He was a quiet soft-spoken person.  But, when he had something to say, it was always worth listening to and taking note.  Horren served as the Scoutmaster for many years and was the driving force behind a number of boys attaining their Eagle Scout Award.  Including his two sons, Mark and Ronald.  In 1976, he and Mark traveled to Philmont Scout Ranch where Horren served as Scout Leader to a contingent of boys who completed their high adventure requirements by hiking more than 100 miles.  He was a strong leader from whom the boys respected and learned humility and honor.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Ann Buffkin Yeager; one son, Ronald Yeager; father, Horren Burvis Yeager; mother, Vera Bryant Yeager; and two sisters, June Yeager Smith and Sarah Yeager Tyler.

Survivors include his loving son, Dr. Mark Yeager of Purvis, MS; four grandchildren, Drew Yeager of South Korea, Garrett Yeager (Anna) of Tupelo, MS, Tiffani Yeager Minchew (Matt) of Meridian, MS, and Mason Yeager of Petal, MS;  five great-grandchildren, Carsyn Minchew of Meridian, MS, Lynlee Minchew of Meridian, MS, Madden Minchew of Meridian, MS, Emma Yeager of Tupelo, MS, and Greyson Yeager of Tupelo, MS; two sisters, Louise Yeager Smith and Cheryl Yeager Bennett both of Long Beach, MS;  and a host of other family members and friends.

Pallbearers will be Mason Yeager, Garrett Yeager, Matt Minchew, Joe Hardin, Rodger Pardue, and John Bryant.

The family ask that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Center Ridge Outpost, camp for autistic youth and adults. at  https://www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=FN5H3LFR9WHR2
