Health Students at SCTC Attend Discovery Day at UMMC
Students enrolled in the Health Sciences and the Health Informatics programming at Simpson County Technical Center (SCTC) recently got a chance to visit the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) for Discovery Day.
While visiting Mississippi’s only academic medical center, SCTC students explored seven schools through education, research and patient care at UMMC’s Discovery Day. The recruitment event is designed to expose high school students to careers in healthcare and research and the educational programs that lead to those careers. The single-site, rotation-based event showcased various schools, programs, centers and departments on UMMC’s main campus in Jackson. Students were able to visit booths and learn about the fulfilling and financially rewarding careers offered at hospitals, medical clinics and dental offices.
According to SCTC students, “they really enjoyed the trip and learned so much related to the health field.”
Brenda White is the instructor for Health Sciences and Kenyatta Durr is the instructor for Health Informatics.
