Hattiesburg Concert Association Receives Grant

from Mississippi Arts Commission

HATTIESBURG, MISS.– The Hattiesburg Concert Association (HCA), presenting organization of FestivalSouth and The Meistersingers, once again has been awarded a $51,600, two-year grant from the Mississippi Arts Commission (MAC). This grant is a portion of the more than $1.65 million in grants MAC awarded in Fiscal Year 2023 and will be used to provide educational and entertaining programming to residents of South Mississippi. MAC grants are made possible by continued funding from the Mississippi State Legislature and the National Endowment for the Arts. This grant represents more than a decade of support to the HCA.

“We are pleased to provide support to arts organizations throughout the state who inspire and serve their communities every day,” said Sarah Story, former executive director of MAC. “These funds will help organizations continue to create innovative exhibitions, performances, and programming for millions of people to enjoy throughout the next year.”

The Hattiesburg Concert Association serves the community by improving quality of life for its residents, attracting tourists, generating income for our local businesses, and educating people of all ages and socio-economic backgrounds. For more than 25 years, it has invested in the growth of the cultural economy with the people it serves at the core of its mission. As champions of the arts and their importance in social and economic growth, the HCA is developing advocacy initiatives to maintain the vibrance of south Mississippi’s cultural economy.

FestivalSouth, the largest project of the Hattiesburg Concert Association, is an annual, multi-week festival presenting a variety of musical and other arts-related entertainment that aims to transcend social, cultural, and economic lines. This year, celebrating its 13th anniversary, FestivalSouth, and its subseries such as Artie Events for Families, FestivalArt, and FestivalMusic, is credited with bringing more than $2 million in economic impact to the community last year alone and has distinguished itself as the premier arts presenter in the region, drawing locals and tourists of all ages with its’ wide variety of cultural programming, that features exceptional performing and visual artists.

The Meistersingers Civic Chorus has been a part of the Hattiesburg Concert Association since 1996, as the original artistic component of HCA.  It has created lasting memories with exceptionally entertaining concerts, galas and musical productions. The Meistersingers personnel have included talented amateur and professional vocalists from throughout the area.  This civic chorus has been known for presenting some of the most creative, respected and well-attended cultural events in the state and region. The Meistersingers Civic Chorus continues to be an important part of the annual cultural offerings by HCA.

The Mississippi Arts Commission is a state agency serving more than two million people through grants and special initiatives that enhance communities, assist artists and arts organizations, promote arts education and celebrate Mississippi’s cultural heritage. MAC is funded by the Mississippi Legislature, the National Endowment for the Arts, the Mississippi Endowment for the Arts at the Community Foundation for Mississippi and other private sources.
