Hattie Lou Smith, age 92, of Mendenhall passed away Monday evening, August 11, 2025 at her residence. She was born July 4, 1933, in Simpson County, a daughter of the late Elton Miller Pittman and Olgie Lott Pittman.

Hattie was preceded in death by her husband Willie Frank (1994) and later by husband Hilton Verell (2012), sister Peggy Gibson, and brother James Larue.

She was a member of First Baptist Church in Mendenhall and a homemaker. She was employed in retail for many years and was a volunteer at Simpson General Hospital. A seasoned traveler as a military wife to W.F., she enjoyed many trips to Oklahoma in her later years.

Hattie is survived by two daughters Margie Blake (Bud) of Ada, Oklahoma; Patty Clark (Wade) of Medicine Park, Oklahoma; two grandchildren Cade Clark (Sadie) and Marlee Hale (Chizum); and three great grandchildren Quincy Clark, Zane Hale and Hali Hale.

She leaves many other family members and special friends who will sadly miss her, as will her faithful pet companion, Sassy.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2025 from 1:00 pm until the service at 2:00 pm at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Mendenhall, 3077 Simpson Hwy 13, Mendenhall, MS. Burial will follow in Mendenhall City Cemetery in Mendenhall, MS. Bro. Chris Garcia and Bro. Paul Cantrell will officiate. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Mendenhall is in charge of arrangements. 601-847-4401

Pallbearers will be Cade Clark, Chizum Hale, Marc Gibson, David Pittman, Bud Blake, and Wade Clark.

Honorary pallbearers will be Matt Pittman and James Pittman.

Special music will be performed by Marc Gibson and Dianne Gibson.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Chapter or Animal Rescue Organization of your choosing.
