The ground hog saw his shadow early morning Wednesday, January 2, 2022 in Pennsylvania.

What has already been a mild winter in the South will continue for 6 more months according to tradition.

But, on average, Phil has gotten it right only 40% of the time over the past 10 years! This is the 136th year of the tradition.

According to tradition Punxsutawney Phil, the ground hog, located in Pennsylvania was recorded as seeing his shadow this morning, February 2, 2022. The second day of February is the day set aside for a groundhog to make the prediction on if there will be six more weeks of bad weather or an early spring. Now different results can happen across the United States but the official result is the one that comes from Punxsutawney Phil in Pennsylvania.

The groundhog has been making his prediction since the 1800’s. At 7:35 Eastern standard time, the groundhog will come out of his burrow on Gobbler’s Knob and make an appearance in front of thousand of followers to predict the next six weeks of weather. If the groundhog sees his shadow there will be six more weeks of bad weather, and if the groundhog does not see his shadow it will only be six weeks to spring.

Can this groundhog really predict what the weather will do? Mostly likely not but there is a lot of fun and energy in the day’s activities.

We southerners know weather in the south can we warm one day and freezing the next.
