My heart is broken as I say goodby to my  friend Philip Allan.  As so many have written and said , he had a servant’s heart…and that is the truth.

When my phone would announce Philip calling, I always knew we would be discussing  ways we could make things better in our city.  His love for Magee was evident in the life he lived.  For 24 years, Philip served the citizens of Magee as a fireman, an EMT, a dispatcher and of course his years as a Volunteer Fireman.  There wasn’t anybody Philip would not help. I do believe his mission in life was truly helping others.

One of the Best

March 13, 2026

When his son Jacob died, I saw in Philip a courageous spirit to continue forward in life.  Philip knew his wife Jean and children Michael and Jessica needed him to be strong.  Although his heart was broken, he never stopped loving others.  We shared many a tear together; talks to encourage one another; and bearhugs to stay the course.

Sometimes, I just don’t want to let people go.  I don’t want to know life without them.  Philip gave me courage…and I bet he never even knew it.

We must  as his friends commit to continue to fashion our life of service more like Philip.  We must be aware of others.  We must love unconditionally.  We must be kind.

As I talked with Michael following Philip’s death, I could hear in his voice strength.  Strength to take care of his mother and sister.  Strength to continue to love others.  Strength to be more like his daddy.  (Most of ya’ll know, I adore Michael.  He truly holds a piece of my heart.)

You will be missed MFD-14.  Thank you for setting the standard high.
