The Scriptural passage is found in Isaiah 44:22: “I have swept away your offenses like a cloud, your sins like the morning mist. Return to me, for I have redeemed you.” The prophet of old, as we know, was empowered by God to be His messenger to God’s chosen people. God’s directives were given to benefit and guide His wandering tribes. He loved them and wanted them to remain close to Him in a spirit of community. He wanted them to depend on Him for deliverance and protection. They, like us, often strayed and did not always keep the faith. We know their history. We know how God’s chosen from ancient times suffered. Let us resolve not to repeat it. We must not. Amen!

James Davis
