Georgia Pacific Foundation donates to welding students
WESSON- The Copiah-Lincoln Community College Foundation recently received a $6,000 grant from the Georgia Pacific Foundation courtesy of Georgia Pacific Monticello. The grant will benefit Co-Lin Workforce Education Division Welding students taking evening classes at the Simpson County Center and Wesson Campus. Georgia Pacific Monticello offered the idea of grant funding to pay for welding student scholarships. Welding students complete 565 hours of training as part of the Welding Contren® Learning Series. Upon successful completion, students have the opportunity to earn Level I and II certifications through the National Center for Construction Education & Research (NCCER).
Six students will receive scholarships to complete the program, three students from the Simpson County Center and three from the Wesson Campus. The program introduces participants to introductory craft skills (Core), Gas Metal Arc Welding (MIG), and Flux Core Arc Welding (FCAW). In addition to welding skills, students train for and earn their 10-hour Occupational Safety and Health Administration General Industry. For information about Co-Lin’s Workforce Division, visit https://careertraining.colin.edu/ or call 601.643.8707. For information about donating to the Co-Lin Foundation, contact Executive Director DJ Preiss at 601.643.8332.
