George Ann Ponder McCann, proud mother and loving wife, 76, left for home on March 27th. She was proceeded on her journey by her parents George and Thelma. She has entrusted life here to her husband Tommy, her sons Jamie and Randy, her precious Angel, and her best friend and partner in crime, Starr.
George Ann grew up in Atlanta where she graduated from Druid Hills High School. She enjoyed cheering for Navy to beat Army and going to Georgia Tech games with her dad. After the games he would take her to the Varsity to get a P.C., that was her favorite thing. During the 1996 Summer Olympic Games in Atlanta, she was a security volunteer, where she got to meet countless athletes and personalities, she would still light up talking about it all these years later.
With her quick wit and warm smile, she was a true Flower Child at heart with a beautiful soul. She was a lover of nature and all of God’s creations (with the exception of gnats and wasps, she wasn’t particularly fond of them). She loved butterflies, birds, and flowers in bloom the most.
She was an avid drag racing and Atlanta sport team fan, especially her Georgia Bulldogs. She spent countless nights and weekends watching her boys race at The Atlanta Dragway, where lifelong memories were made.
In addition to being the rock that held the family together and the best mom in the whole world, she taught love, kindness, and respect. Her presence from here will be forever missed.
She wanted to leave us with this thought:
“Remember me with smiles and laughter, because that’s how I’ll remember y’all,
If you can only remember me with tears, then don’t remember me at all.”
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Poplar Springs cemetery fund, any animal rescue charity, or simply pay forward some kindness, she would love that.
