Congressman Guest Announces Funds to Support Transit for Mississippians Impacted by COVID-19

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Michael Guest (MS-03) announced that the Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) will receive $49.4 million in Federal Transit Administration funds. The funds, allocated by the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, will be used to support rural transit services in the state during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Additionally, MDOT will receive $254,000 in Federal Transit Administration funding from the Appalachian Development Public Transportation Assistance Program to be used by the Noxubee County Human Resource Agency to provide these transit services for Mississippians during the COVID-19 outbreak.

“It’s important that all Mississippians have access to reliable transportation services to travel to work and to collect necessary items like food and medicine. These funds will help ensure Mississippians have access to necessities as we combat the coronavirus outbreak.”

For more information, you can visit the Federal Transit Administration’s page on frequently asked questions or the CARES Act Supplemental Public Transportation Apportionments and Allocations page.
