Forecast Highlights:
- A very cold Arctic air mass will drop from Canada toward the Gulf Coast Thursday into Friday and linger into the Christmas holiday weekend.
- Temperatures are likely to remain below freezing on Friday for at least portions of our forecast area. Low temperatures in the 10-20 range will be possible for these same areas, and we are highlighting this dangerous cold in our latest Hazardous Weather Outlook graphic.
- In addition to dangerous wind chills as cold as 0 degrees, the period of sub-freezing temperatures may damage exposed pipes.
- The cold air will also come with a chance for precipitation, and some wintry mix of rain and snow is possible in our forecast area. There is little confidence in particular locations or accumulation totals at this time, but this could complicate holiday travel through the region.
Our regularly scheduled weekly weather briefing will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, but additional briefings may be needed or requested in advance of this event. Let us know if you have any questions or concerns this week. Thanks again!Nicholas FennerNational Weather Service
