Mr. Turnage was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church of Mize. He served our country in the United States Marine Corps. Ernest Kay Turnage was a husband and father first. His love touched and helped so many in his life. He was tough as a nails marine. My mother was his queen. He kept our family strong through thick and thin and dearly loved all his grandchildren. He was the father that also taught us to never be the bully ever or we would answer to him. Dad was also a caring man with a soft side. Dad, we’re going to miss you so much. When he was a younger man, he loved his Harleys and his Miller lite. He taught his boys how to fight and he took his boxing seriously and life won’t be the same without you…. you made a family of proud Turnage’s and if I can be half the man you, we’re then I’ll be fine. I love you Pop, everyone did.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Grady Turnage and Sarah Cooper Turnage; and one brother, William Larry Turnage.
Survivors include his loving wife of fifty-five years, Lawanda Walsh Turnage of Mize; three sons, William Lee Turnage (Lorrie) of Mize, Michael Shane Turnage of Mize, and Troy Everett Turnage (Lori) of Daphne, AL; one daughter, Amanda Kay Turnage of Mize; three grandchildren, William Ian Turnage, Chynna Thornton Turnage, and Brody Everett Turnage; one brother, Alan Dale Turnage (Dinky) of Tennessee; one sister, Linda Carol Downing of Mize; one brother-in-law, Robert Downing of Mize; and a host of other family members and friends.
