(September 14, 1949 – October 8, 2022)

Elmer Earl Thurman, 73 of Canton, Mississippi passed away from his earthly home to his heavenly home on Saturday, October 8, 2022, at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson, Mississippi. He was born Wednesday, September 14, 1949, in Simpson County, Mississippi.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 12, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Mendenhall at 3077 Simpson Hwy 13, Mendenhall, Mississippi.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 12, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Mendenhall, Mississippi. The burial will follow in New Hebron Cemetery in New Hebron, Mississippi. Brother Mike Grenn will officiate. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Mendenhall is in charge of arrangements. 601-847-4401

Mr. Thurman attended New Hebron Baptist Church in New Hebron, Mississippi.  He was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and friend.  He worked for Madison County Road Department for over twenty years.  During this time he made a lot of friends.  He enjoyed farming, watching Westerns on T.V., working with tractors, and most of all spending time with his family and friends.  He will be greatly missed by all of his loving family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his son, Kenny Thurman; father, B.A. Thurman; mother, Edna Berry Thurman; and brother, Ed Thurman.

Survivors include his one son, Eddie Thurman of New Hebron, MS; one daughter, Angie Thurman Purser (Wilson) of Puckett, MS; three grandchildren, Wilson Purser III, McKenzie Purser, and Maddie Purser all of Puckett, MS; two great-grandchildren, Cayson Moran and Nash Parish both of Puckett, MS; one sister, Sybil Thurman Sills of New Hebron, MS; one step-granddaughter, Gabby Lawrence of Canton, MS; and a host of other family members and friends.
