After auditions, all scores tallied, Magee High School is proud to have Kameron Durr represent them as Drum Major for the 2018 Mississippi Lions All-State Band.

Kameron has been preparing and auditioning for several weeks.

Lions Band is composed of the best of the best from the states local schools’ marching bands. Approximately 140 students are chosen for the band.

Young musicians must prove themselves in auditions every year. Success brings the opportunity to travel and make music with the best of the best and to play alongside young musicians they might not otherwise meet.

Each student must audition in front of a panel of judges. Call backs are made for a second round of auditions and then students are selected.

Kameron will be the only Drum Major leading the 2018 Lions Band.

The band is under the direction of Jeff Cannon, Director/Manager and Mickey Mangum, Assistant Director/Manager.

This year the Lions band will travel to Las Vegas, Nevada during the summer for competition.

Mississippi Lions Band has been International Champions 33 years. This year will mark the 101st year of competition.

Magee has had approximately 10 students over the years to accomplish this prestige award. Kameron is the second person from Magee to be chosen as Drum Major.  Todd Prince was chosen as Drum Major during the late 80’s.

The band will go though an intense week of training/camp before leaving for Las Vegas for competition.

Anyone who has seen Kameron perform knows he is very deserving of the honor.

Kameron is a senior at Magee High School. After graduation Kameron will further his education at the University of Southern Mississippi. Kameron plans to major in Music Education and hopes to one day lead the Pride of Mississippi Band as a Drum Major. Kameron has been in band since 6th grade. When he is not leading the band, Kameron plays the saxophone during concert season.

Students are responsible for the cost of the trip. Most Lions Club’s will help in funding local students but a lot of the cost remains the students responsibility.  Anyone wanting to contribute to Kameron please see Magee High School Band directors and they will advise how you can help.

Kameron is the son of Keyaha Durr and Sederick Durr. Grandparents are Janice and John Walker and Dorothy Stovall.

Congratulations Kameron we are very proud of your accomplishment!
