Following the Call to order of the June 2, 2025 Simpson County Board of Supervisors by President Danny Craft, Charlie Welch led in prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance.
The May 2026 Minutes were approved.
Kade Walker and Braden Duncan were recognized as recipients of the 2025 MAS County Employee Scholarship.
No action was taken on a claim for damage to automobile on Mulligan Road filed by Debra Smith. Additional information was required.
The MOU between the Simpson County Sheriff’s department and the Simpson County School District for the provision of school safety officers was signed by Sheriff Paul Mullins and the Simpson County School District Board President. (approved by the school board on July 11, 2024)
Pay raises were granted for court administrators and Deputy court administrators.
Judge Martin appeared before the board with updates on what is transpiring in Youth Court. Chancery Clerk Tim Gray’s office will take over the youth services. The district will become a 7-county area with 3 judges. Judge Martin reminded the Board their budget would need to be adjusted for the upcoming change. Simpson County is the second largest county in the 7-county area.
Acknowledged and recorded in the Board minutes of the resignation of Butch Magee from the Parks and Recreation Board. Jason Barr was appointed to the position.
County engineer Greg Bonds reported gravel on shoulders in the Dry Creek area is almost complete. County ride through will take place on June 16, 2025, if any supervisors are interested in ridding.
Jeremy Bolton, Road Manager, reported the following: New hire/part time Cody McCurdy non CDL and Phillip Goodwin CDL; motion to send 2 workers to the CDL school at Co-Lin (Jerry Granderson and Rayford Phillips; motion to rent a 60 foot long handle excavator to clear log jam on Bridgeport Road lowest bid Stribling $3221.00; discussion of service contract for the excavator which is $16,700. Thirty trees went down last week. Bolton reported trucks are down causing a backlog on an already 6 weeks back log.
Tracy Trigg, county resident, 471 Macedonia Road Mendenhall is requesting tax exemption for Homeless Shelter. The matter was tabled for additional information.
Booker Woodard, county resident, appeared before the Board with an update on a continuing project involving black farmers against the Federal Government

Tax Assessor Jamie Brewer presented the May surrounded tag list as well as the Solid Waste report for May.

John Bickerstaff of Real Pure Bottling came before the Board asking for a tax exemption for the upcoming year. Real Pure employees 45 people which does not show a growth from last year. The company has added a $6million high speed bottle line. Due to the fact 10 employees had been laid off (4 or 5 have been rehired) and no growth (employees) in the company, a motion was made by Wayne Womack to not approve the request. The motion passed denying Real Pure a tax exemption. “We want to help all business, but we must see job opportunities,” stated President Craft. Bickerstaff acknowledged “business is touch.” Womack stated, “we can’t use county money to make your business better.”

Mr. McCoy expressed his appreciation to the Board of Supervisors for their stand against the Simpson County School board in not granting a request for additional funds from the county for the school district.
